Personal Opinions

 

I'm in general someone who expresses his opinion, if I'm asked for it, obviously, but often in big groups or with people I don't know I prefer to be uncontroversial, so in those instances I often keep my opinion to myself.

Well, as I'm a neat freak (oops) I'll leave the questions and the answers aside.

What is your opinion about owning an exotic pet?

I think it shouldn't be legal, exotic animals in general are delicate and deserve care that not all owners can give them, and even those who give them those comforts, they don't really know the animal's needs or if they feel comfortable, that's why many times I question about owning even cats or dogs, in a way we are taking them out of their environment, even if we think we are giving them a better life.

What is your opinion about tattoos?

Ufff, tattoos. For me they are very beautiful, everyone I know who has a visible one I feel they look cooler, it's like they instantly gain an extra point of style. And well, I don't have much more to say about this, it's not my place because it's not my body, but I can give my opinion on how they are evaluated by society.

It seems to me that with time they have become more and more accepted in the work environment, but there are some places where they are still seen very badly and I find it horrible, I don't understand why your image affects in any way how efficient you are, it seems really stupid to me.

What is your opinion about legalizing marijuana and other drugs?

They should be legal, fullstop, ah.

Nah, I think it's also stupid that marijuana isn't legalized, there are other things that are more easily available to people and can lead you to bad places.

And not just marijuana, but other natural drugs as well. Do people really think that because they are illegal they are going to stop using them? They are dreaming.

What is your opinion about the Chilean tradition called 'mechoneo'?

I'm not going to lie, I thought it was fun when I was a kid, but when I grew up I experienced something similar in high school and I was like :0, wow, how fun is to have everything taken away from you, get stained and have to ask for money in the streets to go to a party where you  m i g h t   have fun. Mmmmm, no, I'm not interested.

I heard that even before the pandemic many universities had stopped doing it because they thought it was a bad practice, somewhat abusive and controversial as an initiation for first year students.

Changes to my study programme

 

   Uhg, the faculty of arts, that place I've only been able to go to once.

Because of the pandemic, I've only been able to enter the university once and I think that's enough for me to understand that the place has a lot of shortcomings. The ceilings, the walls, the spaces need to be fixed with u r g e n c e .And if I only spent 10 minutes in each of those rooms and realised that there were things broken and poorly done, I can't imagine what one can find going to that place five days per week.

Anyway, I only knew the faculty of arts of Las encinas, not the other faculty of arts or all Juan Gomez Millas, maybe there are cooler places (they say the swimming pool is the best).

So moving on to what I know more about, I don't think I would change much about the career. I remember when I was in high school I thought that the career should have a subject that would serve to guide in the workplace, as it is something in which we artists are quite neglected, but just when I entered the university they changed the curriculum and added a subject about thi. In my opinion, the curriculum is relatively good, maybe I would suggest a change regarding the amount of CFG that we have to take, since visual arts has many subjects every year, like 7-9, and in general the careers have between 4 to 5 branches per semester.

If I could travel to some point in the history. I think I would go to the time where still existed Pangea (that piece of land that fell apart creating the continents that we know)

You may wonder why so far away, anddd, well, there is no great explanation, it’s just an age that makes me very curious because of the living beings that inhabited it, the vegetation, etc. I suppose that the fascination I have for that era is the same that other people have for the dinosaurs.

Being in that other context, I think I would take samples of everything, and when I say everything, I mean E V E R Y T H I N G.  Why would I do that? Well, I guess some samples would look cool under a microscope, oh, I forgot, I don’t know how to use any of that because mmm, I study arts, not science so I would bring a friend of mine (Vick) who is studying biotechnology, they would probably help me studying the samples in a deeper way.

Anyway, being in a time that humans don't know almost anything about, I'd probably go for just a couple of hours so i don't risk my physical integrity, and even going for a short time I'd be scared to death, lest I die from curiosity.

My future job¿¿¿¿¿¿

Years ago, my dream was to work and live from art, so basically, being an artist, something a bit bohemian and cliché. Now that seems really ridiculous to me and I even feel ashamed to think that at some point I wanted that for my future, hahaha. My dream was motivated only by the love of art, but it wasn't profitable at all.

Right now I am not so clear about what I will do in the future in terms of work, I only know that I want to travel and study more about art and other professions, so I think that in my near future I will do work holidays for a few years getting to know other countries, maybe go to an artistic internship (outside or inside the country) before settling permanently in Chile or another country, and then look for a job in what I see myself more interested in, cultural management.

I don't really know how it works in other countries, I suppose it must be different, but I think I'm good at guiding and organising, I think that with well-developed artistic knowledge I could do a good job. However, I see this as a long way off, not because of the probability of achieving it, but because of the time I think I will do it.

I'll probably get a degree too. A while ago I spoke to a teacher and she told me that there were some places open for a master's degree in new media, so I'll probably do that before I get a stable job that I like.

       Before the pandemic I used to go to museums frequently, seeing other people's art is very interesting to me, because beyond what it provokes, we also see a bit of the artist and what they thinks.Another thing that I find very interesting is when museums show the artistic processes or explain them on those little boards that they put next to the works (Idk what they're called), I really like to learn about new techniques and investigate them.

Well, in general I like to study, but I think that this kind of "research" serves to complement my skills, since I don't consider myself naturally skilled, I function in my career mainly by motivation and constant work. Anyway when I was at school I had the opportunity to learn some techniques in an art school, when I was studying there, the teacher always entered us in 2 to 3 drawing/painting competitions in a year, we would find out the theme, she would evaluate us (because the projects were graded) and then she would send all our works to the competition. Only once I won, and they gave me a TV👻. 

Many times I have questioned who decide the "winners" of the contests, will they accept all forms of art? will they be impartial? will they have a favourite area?, it has always caused me noise, because apart from the fact that art can be very subjective, how can you evaluate a work without knowing the artist? and the moment you know about the artist you can't be impartial, well, a whole moral complication, ah. 

Anyway, I think that competitions open up a very big world for artists in general (not only visual artists) and it's important to maintain one of the few spaces that can give us some facility

My Childhood

 The smell of the sea always makes me think of Arica, and as part of my family lives there, it has a special place in my heart and in my memory.

There I enjoyed going to the "club" that when I was 5 I only saw it as a beach with little boats and a few years ago I found out that it was a yacht club xD, but well, the point is that there were small boats there and my grandmother's husband had one named after my grandmother called "la josefina" and the times we went to the club it was for two things 1. Go swimming and lying on the beach. 2. Go yachting, and I loved the second one too much. He would take my sisters, my father, my grandmother and me on the yacht to sail around the sea and look at the sea animals and birds.

Curiously, although I went every year to a city with a beach, I learned to swim when I was about 7-8 years old in a pool that I don't even remember anymore, and for me it was quite an achievement, because I was really scared of it.

I think my childhood was great, I had a lot of space to enjoy what it is to be a child.

The best concert I've been to

 Between 2010 and 2015 I was a big fan of One Direction, a very well known boy band, so when they announced that they would be doing a world tour and would be coming to Chile on the 31st of April and the 1st of May at the National Stadium, I was very excited. 

Anyway, my parents told me that I was too young, and that even if I went with them the tickets were too expensive, so it was a clear no. 

But two hours before the concert my mum called me and told me that I had to leave school (not for ever, of course), because she had been given tickets for the One Direction concert. I WAS VERY EXCITED, for me there was no world in which I could go. The concert was great, people were screaming, singing, crying, it was like a collective experience.

A COUNTRY I WOULD LIKE TO VISIT

 I would like to travel to various countries because I like to learn about different cultures, but I am especially interested in go on a trip to Italy. I know mainly about some tourist places and I am taking courses to learn Italian, but I don't know too much about how things work in that country, the cost of basic services and so on. That's why I'd like to make a couple (maybe more) of trips there, one for a holiday and one to get a job and try to support myself for like a semester or something like that. 

Well, the truth is that my expectation is not to study there, but to travel around various areas in Italy, settle down and form a life in that country.

In my mind it all of this sounds nice, but maybe when I travel I won't like it, but well, I will have learned something from that too!
